Institute for Advanced Mathematics

AEON Institute for Advanced Mathematics

We enable students to think like the greatest mathematicians of all time. The Institute is a global extracurricular program for students aged 11 to 18 to excel in advanced mathematical understanding. We are the only mathematical institute that offers a diploma in advanced mathematics for secondary school students. Discover what else sets us apart.

Think Like Newton

Our members stand on the shoulders of giants. Supported by a customized curriculum, members study the insights and strategies upon which mathematics is built, explore fun puzzles, and develop original proofs.

Expand Your Circle

Our members belong to a global network of young mathematicians and expert mentors. Community members approach math in creative ways, attend selective math camps, and excel in competitions.

Demonstrate Excellence

Our members can pursue the IAM Diploma in Advanced Mathematics. The diploma, earned in addition to a high school degree, distinguishes members in their postsecondary pursuits.

Diploma in Advanced Mathematics

The IAM Diploma in Advanced Mathematics is an additional diploma demonstrating advanced, rigorous study in mathematics.

Not every member will choose to pursue the diploma, as it represents a unique challenge and requires a significant commitment. To earn this distinction, members must:

  • Demonstrate mastery of essential mathematical principles.
  • Complete a capstone project or paper on a topic of their choice.
  • Discuss their capstone in an oral defense.

The diploma demonstrates that recipients are prepared to be original thinkers in mathematics.

Math in More Dimensions

The greatest mathematicians didn’t only solve existing problems — they dared to ask questions no one else was asking. At the Institute, our members explore the groundbreaking discoveries of mathematical pioneers, such as Archimedes, Euler, Newton, and Germain. They step into these giants’ shoes and tackle the same profound questions that continue to inspire new breakthroughs today. Our expert instructors curate a curriculum tailored to each member’s unique skills, interests, and aspirations, ensuring each journey is as challenging as it is rewarding.

Community

Our community of members collaborate on complex challenges, research new areas of mathematics, and attend talks and workshops from mathematical luminaries. Along the way, they form lasting friendships with like-minded peers who share their love of discovery.

Who Should Join

We are looking to bring together a unique group of like-minded peers. This is for students who:

  • Aspire to advance their mathematical skills beyond what is possible in their current classes.
  • Love mathematics and puzzles, but are not challenged by traditional problem sets.
  • Want a curriculum that adapts to their interests and speed.
  • Ask why things are the way they are, rather than accepting them at face value.

If this sounds like you, we look forward to seeing your application.

More than 2000 years before integral calculus was systematized, Archimedes developed a method to calculate the area under a spiral using infinitely small slices.

Program Summary

The Institute for Advanced Mathematics is a year-round honor society that welcomes students aged 11–18 who want to deepen and pursue their love of mathematics. Members receive access to a menu of opportunities, including:
